You’re up for the challenge! Driving a manual car is definitely going to be more fun and enjoyable when you have more control over the car. Maybe you already have some experience driving an automatic car, and want to experience the total control you would have with a manual car.

Get comfy and familiar with the controls of your car is one of the most important things when learning to drive.

Dashboard

Shows you the speed, oil temperature, fuel level, and all the other vital information about your car.

Steering Wheel

This big circular thing controls the direction of the car.

Pedals

The one on the right is called the accelerator, or “gas”, which speeds up the car. The one in the middle is called the brakes, which slows down the car. The one on the left is called the clutch, which engages and disengages the transmission

Gear Lever

This stick controls the what gear the transmission is in.
Each number corresponds to a different gear which could range from 3 to 7, and R stands for Reverse. The car is in neutral when the lever is in the middle.

3  |  Starting Up

Start up the car by stepping on the clutch pedal and inserting the key into the steering column.

Or, if you have a fancier car, step on the clutch pedal and press the engine start button to start the engine.

4  |  Get Moving!

Once you get situated, step on the brakes and the clutch, put the car into first gear and release the handbrake.

Let go of the brakes and slowly let go of the clutch. Your car will start to move forward slowly.

Give it some gas and start driving!
